a Thrilling Encounter; Finals Rematch Set
Mumbai: In a nail-biting last league stage match of the Meteora
Developers World Padel League, SG Pipers Cheetahs secured a narrow 22-21
victory over Vernost Jaguars at the Nesco Center, Mumbai.
Despite the loss, Vernost Jaguars topped the points table with 69 points,
while SG Pipers Cheetahs followed closely with 66 points, setting the
stage for a highly anticipated final showdown between the two teams.
Meanwhile,
Sohail Khan Ent. Panthers (62 points) and Game Changers Lions (61
points) finished third and fourth, respectively, missing out on a spot in the
final.

The
match started with an intense mixed doubles clash, where Vernost
Jaguars' David Gala Sanchez and Maria Virginia Riera secured a 6-4
victory over SG Pipers Cheetahs' Pol Hernandez and Julieta Bidahorria,
giving their team an early edge.
In
the men’s doubles, SG Pipers Cheetahs' Enrique Goenaga and Teodoro
Zapata broke the opening serve of Vernost Jaguars' Alejandro
Arroyo and Aris Patiniotis, taking an early 2-0 lead. However, the
Jaguars fought back to level the set at 3-3. The Cheetahs responded with
another break, extended their lead to 5-3, and ultimately clinched
the set 6-4, bringing the overall score to 10-10.
The
women’s doubles match witnessed a stunning comeback from SG Pipers
Cheetahs' Claudia Fernandez and Beatriz Gonzalez, who trailed 0-3
against Vernost Jaguars' Alejandra Salazar and Tamara Icardo. They
leveled the score at 4-4 before taking control and sealing the set 6-4,
propelling their team to a 16-14 lead.
In
the final set, SG Pipers Cheetahs' Francisco Guerrero and Juanlu
Esbri gained an early advantage against Vernost Jaguars' Lucas
Campagnolo and Maximiliano Sanchez. They maintained a one-game lead
throughout, but the Jaguars fought back, saving multiple set points to level
the score at 5-5, pushing the match into a tiebreaker.
The
Jaguars initially trailed 0-2 in the tiebreak but staged a brilliant
comeback, winning five consecutive points to lead 5-2 and
eventually secured the set 7-6. However, despite their spirited
fightback, they fell just one point short, losing the match 22-21.
