Grand Boxing Event Organised on the Occasion of Prof. Dr. Mangesh Karad’s 60th Birthday

 

Loni-Kalbhor (Pune): A grand State-Level Invitational Boxing Championship was successfully organised with great enthusiasm at MIT Art, Design and Technology (ADT) University, Pune, on the special occasion of the 60th birthday of Executive President and Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mangesh Karad. The event created a vibrant sporting atmosphere as talented boxers from across Maharashtra displayed their skills and fighting spirit in exciting bouts.

 

Competition Across Multiple Weight Categories

The championship featured both men’s and women’s categories in several weight divisions including welterweight, bantamweight, lightweight, light middleweight, middleweight, light heavyweight, cruiserweight, and heavyweight. The tournament witnessed intense and highly competitive matches, reflecting the growing popularity and strength of boxing at the state level.

 

Grand Inauguration by Renowned Boxing Legends

The championship was inaugurated by Arjuna Award-winning boxer Captain Gopal Devang and Olympian and Arjuna Awardee boxer Manoj Pingale, whose presence added prestige and motivation to the event. Their inspiring interaction with young boxers made the occasion even more memorable for the participants.

 

Dignitaries Mark Their Presence

Several distinguished guests remained present during the event, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rajesh S., Provost Dr. Sayali Ganakar, Director of Sports Prof. Padmakar Phad, Dr. Atul Patil, and other respected dignitaries from the university and sports fraternity.

 

More Than ₹2 Lakh Prize Money Distributed

At the conclusion of the championship, winners from all weight categories were honoured with gold medals, while the runners-up received silver medals. Along with medals, a total prize money of more than ₹2 lakh was distributed, making the championship even more special and encouraging for the athletes.

 

Top Boxing Academies from Across Maharashtra Participate

Boxers from several reputed academies from across the state took part in the championship, including Yuva Vikas Manch, Manoj Pingale Sports Academy, Knockout Boxing Academy, Mumbai Boxing Academy, Star Boxing Academy, Kondhwa Boxing Academy, Kharalwadi Boxing Academy, K.D. Boxing Academy, BMSA Academy, BVGP Boxing Academy, and Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT Sports Academy. Their participation ensured high-quality competition and thrilling contests throughout the event.

 

Special Individual Honours for Outstanding Performances

In the Middleweight category (70–75 kg), Mithesh Rathod from K.D. Boxing Academy was declared the “Best Boxer” of the championship for his outstanding performance and ring dominance. In the Heavyweight category (85–90 kg), Arya Auti from MIT ADT University received the “Best Challenger” award for an impressive and determined performance.

 

The championship once again proved that MIT ADT University continues to play a major role in promoting boxing and building strong sporting talent in Maharashtra.
