Historic Election Marks a New Democratic Milestone as Maharashtra Chamber Approaches Its Centenary Year

 

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (MACCIA), one of Maharashtra's most influential apex business organisations, has successfully conducted its elections for the 2026–28 term in a transparent, disciplined and enthusiastic atmosphere.

 

Representing around 7,000 direct members and over 20 lakh traders, industrialists, entrepreneurs and agricultural stakeholders, the Chamber has set a new benchmark for democratic participation as it enters its centenary year.

 

Ravindra Mangave Elected President Unopposed

Ravindra Mangave has been elected unopposed as President of MACCIA. Members have reposed their faith in his leadership and recognised his contribution towards the development of industry, trade and agriculture. It is expected that under his leadership, the Chamber will further strengthen its role in accelerating Maharashtra's economic growth.

 

 

Intense Contest Between Two Panels

This year's elections witnessed a keen contest between the Ekta Panel (Road Roller) and the Pragati Panel (Aeroplane), generating tremendous enthusiasm among members.

 

Karunakar Shetty won the election for the post of Senior Vice President by securing a victory margin of 1,885 votes.

 

New Leadership Across Regions

The following candidates were elected as Vice Presidents: Sunita Falgune (Nashik), Santosh Rane (Konkan), Mahendra Agarwal (North Maharashtra)

Their election is expected to provide strong and balanced regional representation.

Six Vice Presidents Elected Unopposed

The following office-bearers were elected unopposed: Dr. Dhanashree Hardas (Mumbai-1), Kiran Bhosale (Mumbai-2), Sanjay Shete (West Maharashtra-1), Sarjerao Nalawade (West Maharashtra-2), Sanjay Kirdat (Marathwada), Siddharth Ruhatia (Vidarbha).

 

In Mumbai, all 20 Governing Council members were elected unopposed, along with several members from other regions, reflecting unity and cooperation within the organisation.

Historic First in 99 Years

For the first time in MACCIA's 99-year history, an election for the Vice President's post was held from the Vidarbha region. This is being seen as a historic step towards ensuring equal representation for all regions of Maharashtra.

 

Transparent and Peaceful Election Process

The entire election process was conducted peacefully, transparently and efficiently under the guidance of Chief Election Officer and Secretary General Suresh Ghorpade.

 

Voting was held from 11 to 13 June 2026, while counting was completed on 15 June in an enthusiastic atmosphere.

 

Moving Towards the Centenary Year

As MACCIA approaches its centenary year, these elections mark an important milestone, highlighting its democratic values, active member participation and growing influence. The newly elected office-bearers and Governing Council members are expected to work with greater speed, effectiveness and a broader vision for the overall development of Maharashtra's trade, industry and agriculture sectors.
