Indian Women Face Narrow Defeat Against Sri Lanka
Colombo, September 29: The Indoor Cricket Masters
World Series, recognized by the World Indoor Cricket Federation (WICF) and
organized in collaboration with the Ceylon Indoor Cricket Association, has
commenced at the Austeshia Sports Club, Thalawathugoda, Colombo, Sri Lanka. In
this tournament, the Indian women's team over 30 faced a narrow defeat against
the host team, Sri Lanka.
The Indian women’s team showcased a strong
performance against a formidable Sri Lankan side. In the match, Sri Lanka
defeated the Indian women by 10 runs, with a score of 75-65. Batting first,
India’s opening pair of Aritri Mitra (20 runs and 2 wickets) and Kasturi Kolte
(14 runs and 1 wicket) accumulated 34 runs in the first four overs. The captain
Disha Patel (4 runs and 1 wicket) and Rashma Shetty (8 runs) added 12 runs as
the second pair, while the third pair of Pooja Jain (7 runs and 1 wicket) and Vishalakshi
Prakash (4 runs) contributed 11 runs to keep India’s score moving. The fourth
and final pair, vice-captain Surbhi Sharma (8 runs and 1 wicket) and Jyoti
Chandrashekar (1 wicket), added 8 runs, helping India reach a respectable
total.
The Sri Lankan batters took an aggressive stance
from the start, with the first pair (captain Methma Hettiarachchi and
vice-captain Udara Bandara) scoring 30 runs, followed by the second pair
(Shashikala de Silva and Shanika Wijesekara) who added 20 runs. India managed
to restrict the third pair (Harshani Fernando and Anushika Anthony) to 14 runs.
India now faced the challenge of quickly dismissing the fourth pair to maximize
their chances of victory. However, the fourth and final pair (Nadeeka Premasiri
and Kumudu Jayasundara) fought hard and scored 11 runs, dashing India’s hopes
and securing victory for Sri Lanka.
In other matches today, India faced a setback
with another defeat.
