Mumbai : Rayaan Razmi emerged victorious, defeating Shabaz Khan 5-4 in a thrilling and nerve-wracking Men’s 15-red snooker final of the Malabar Hill Club Maharashtra State Billiards & Snooker Championships 2024. The match, played late on Friday evening at the Malabar Hill Club billiards hall, showcased high-quality snooker and intense competition.

 

The final was a roller-coaster of emotions as fortunes fluctuated frame by frame. Shabaz started strongly, crafting a break of 58 to claim the opening frame. However, the lanky Rayaan responded immediately with a break of 48 to level the scores. Shabaz then compiled an impressive 73 break to win the third frame and regain the lead (2-1). Rayaan struck back in the fourth to equalize once again, but Shabaz edged a close fifth to go ahead 3-2.

 

Undeterred, Rayaan showcased his composure and resilience, winning the next two frames to take a 4-3 lead. Shabaz fought valiantly, taking the eighth frame to force a decider. In the final frame, Rayaan capitalized on his opportunities, constructing a decisive 44 break to secure a 13-76, 61-31, 11-79, 75-34, 49-61, 52-22, 58-34, 42-56, and 62-19 victory and clinch the title.

 

In the third-place playoff, Aditya Mehta defeated Sumer Mago 3-2 in a closely contested match, including a superb break of 102 by Mago in the fourth frame.

 

In the billiards category, top cueists showcased their class in the first round, with Dhruv Sitwala, Devendra Joshi, and Siddharth Parikh securing comfortable wins.
