Adkar
Outplays Top Seed Gimbrere
Third
seed Vaishnavi Adkar produced a calm and controlled performance to
defeat top seed Jasmijn Gimbrere (WTA ranking 430) 6-3, 6-2 to reach the
singles final. It marks Adkar’s second consecutive final, following her
impressive run at the W100 event in Bengaluru.
The
match began with both players holding serve comfortably before Gimbrere claimed
the first break. Adkar quickly responded with precise backhands to break back
and restore parity. The set remained closely contested until Gimbrere committed
a couple of unforced errors, allowing Adkar to move ahead 5-3 before serving
out the set 6-3.
Adkar
carried the momentum into the second set, breaking early and dictating play
from the baseline. Although Gimbrere briefly levelled the set, Adkar regained
control midway and broke again to take a 5-2 lead before comfortably closing
out the match.
Raina
Stages Strong Comeback
Eighth
seed Ankita Raina fought back brilliantly to defeat sixth seed Thasaporn
Naklo 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the second semifinal. Naklo claimed the opening set
6-4 with aggressive net play and powerful finishing.
Raina
responded strongly in the second set, breaking midway to move ahead 4-3 and
then serving out the set 6-4. In the deciding set, the Indian player took early
control with a break and continued to apply pressure through consistent
baseline rallies. Another break in the seventh game gave her a commanding 5-2
lead, and she sealed the match with a confident hold to win the set 6-2.
Dominant
Display in Doubles Final
Later
in the day, Adkar and Raina joined forces in the doubles final and
delivered a dominant performance against Akanksha Nitture and Soha
Sadiq. After routine service holds early in the match, the pair secured the
first break in the fourth game to lead 3-1. Their aggressive net play and
strong coordination helped them wrap up the first set 6-2.
The
second set followed a similar pattern as the duo capitalised on errors to break
for a 3-1 lead. Maintaining control throughout, Adkar converted match point
with a sharp backhand winner at the net, sealing a 6-2, 6-2 victory and
the championship title.
