: It was a day of sheer dominance and class at the Yonex Sunrise Manoj
Ramchandra Memorial State Open Badminton Tournament 2026, as top seeds
stamped their authority with clinical performances at the Matunga Gymkhana
courts in Mumbai. Purva Barve and Aarya Korgaonkar led the charge
in the women’s section by storming into the pre-quarter-finals, while Sankalp
Chandragurula continued his winning run in the men’s draw. The tournament,
organised by the North Indian Association and Jitesh Padukone Academy under the
Maharashtra Badminton Association, is being supported by SVC Co-Operative
Bank and Saraswat Co-Operative Bank.
Women’s
Singles: Purva & Aarya Cruise into Pre-Quarters
Top
seed Purva Barve displayed exceptional attacking flair and sharp
tactical play to outclass Ananya Rane with a commanding 15-0, 15-8
victory. Second seed Aarya Korgaonkar also progressed smoothly,
defeating Tiann Castellino 15-5, 15-8, though she faced brief
resistance before sealing the win. Both players comfortably advanced to the
pre-quarter-finals, underlining their strong title credentials.
Kardile’s
Comeback; Shreya Duo Advance
In
a thrilling encounter, Shiwanjali Kardile showed remarkable resilience
after losing the first game to defeat Tia Ugrankar 17-19, 15-6, 15-13,
joining the top seeds in the next round. Meanwhile, 3rd seed Shreya Bhosale
cruised past Ruchi Rane 15-5, 15-1, and 4th seed Shreya Shelar
dominated Rishika Pal 15-4, 15-4, as both advanced to the Round
of 16 with ease.
Men’s
Singles: Sankalp Leads Strong Charge
In
the men’s section, top seed Sankalp Chandragurula continued his fine
form with a convincing 15-3, 15-6 win over Krishna Bhattad. Ojas
Gedam fought back after dropping the first game to defeat Tanay
Mehendale 11-15, 15-11, 15-6, while Sujal Lakhari overcame Sairaj
Samant 15-9, 15-9. Local favourite Harshit Mahimkar impressed
once again with a solid 15-9, 15-6 win against Siddhesh Palve,
and Vishwajit Thavil defeated Akshat Raisurana 15-7, 15-5,
15-11.
Junior
Spotlight: Gritty Wins in Boys’ U-15 Category
In
the Boys’ Under-15 category, Shlok Amberkar showcased tremendous
fighting spirit to defeat Aradhya Pawar 12-15, 20-18, 15-9 in a
thrilling three-game battle. Aadesh Ekade also displayed resilience,
overcoming Aditya Sarvade 11-15, 15-7, 15-10. Other winners
included Shlok Goyal, Abhinav Palkar, Vivaan Waingankar, Joshua
Siby, Tanmay Patil, and Anay Arlekar, all advancing with
impressive performances.
Girls’
U-15: Dominant Performances Continue
In
the Girls’ Under-15 section, 1st seed Anvisha Ghorpade defeated Pahal
Tanna 15-3, 15-4, while Manasvi Raut overcame Meera Dixit
15-8, 15-13. Anushree Modlimbkar registered a 15-5, 15-7
win, and Aaradhya Shukla beat Meha Shah 15-7, 15-5,
highlighting the rising talent in the junior circuit.
