Mumbai:
In
a spectacular celebration of sport and emerging talent, the Maharashtra
Pickleball Association (MPA) officially launched the Maharashtra Open
2026, the state’s flagship pickleball championship, at the Andheri
Sports Complex in Mumbai. Held from May 1 to 3, 2026, the tournament
marks a major milestone as a Pickleball World Rankings (PWR) certified
event, bringing together elite players and over 1,000 participants in
what promises to be one of the most exciting pickleball showcases in India.
Star
Participation – International Achievers and Indian Talent:
The championship features top names including Arjun Singh and Aditya
Singh, who recently secured three gold medals at the prestigious US
Open Pickleball Championship in Naples, Florida. Also in action is India’s second-ranked
Women’s Singles player, Mihika Yadav, adding further depth and
competitiveness to the tournament. With 30+ categories, the event
provides a platform for both seasoned professionals and emerging athletes.
Leadership
Vision – Building a Pickleball Powerhouse:
Under
the leadership of MPA President Rahool Kanal, the association has
already crossed 750 members within its debut month, highlighting the
rapid growth of pickleball in Maharashtra. Kanal stated, “The Maharashtra Open
2026 represents a turning point for pickleball in the state. Our vision is to
build Maharashtra into a dominant force in Indian pickleball, expanding the
sport across districts and nurturing talent at every level.”
Government
Support – Strengthening Sporting Legacy:
The
inauguration ceremony was graced by Adv. Ashish Shelar, Minister of
Cultural Affairs, Maharashtra, who praised the initiative, stating, “Hosting a
globally certified tournament with over 1,000 participants in its first year is
a remarkable achievement. The Government of Maharashtra fully supports this
vision and looks forward to seeing players represent the state at national and
international levels.”
Champions
Shine – Pro Singles Winners Announced:
In
the Pro Singles category, Aahana Punjabi clinched the Women’s Singles
gold medal with a composed and consistent performance, defeating Priyanka
Mehta in the final. In the Men’s Singles, Atharva Khisti
emerged victorious, overcoming Arush Niture in a thrilling final.
Earlier, Arush delivered a major upset by defeating Arjun Singh in the
semi-finals, while Atharva secured his place in the final by beating veteran Vishal
Jadhav.
Future
Outlook – A Growing Sporting Movement:
The
Maharashtra Open 2026 is a defining moment for both the Indian Pickleball
Association (IPA) and MPA, reflecting the sport’s growing popularity and
structured development. With strong leadership, increasing participation and a
