BFI
STRENGTHENS SELECTION SYSTEM WITH REVISED CAMP ASSESSMENT SCHEDULE!
Transparent
and Performance-Based Framework to Decide India’s Boxing Future
Clear
Roadmap for Elite Selection
Assessment
to Decide National Rankings and International Representation
The
Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has formalised a detailed and
structured assessment framework for the Elite National Coaching Camp, a
crucial process that will determine national rankings and selection of
boxers for upcoming major international competitions. The outcomes of this
assessment will play a key role in finalising India’s squad for events such as
the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, World Boxing Cup 2,
and other global tournaments.
Corrigendum
Issued for Better Preparation; Revised Schedule Ensures Adequate Time for
Athletes
As
part of its systematic approach, BFI had initially released the
assessment schedule in the last week of April. However, a corrigendum issued
on May 1 introduced necessary refinements in the timeline, ensuring that
athletes get sufficient preparation time following a delay in camp
sanction. This move highlights BFI’s commitment to fairness and athlete
readiness.
Two-Phase
Assessment Structure; Strength Tests Followed by Competitive Sparring
Under
the revised schedule, the assessment will be conducted in two phases.
The Strength & Conditioning tests will take place on May 6 and 7,
followed by sparring bouts from May 11 to 15. The sparring rounds will
be conducted in a knockout format, ensuring a competitive and
result-oriented evaluation across all weight categories.
Comprehensive
200-Marks Evaluation System; Technical and Non-Technical Factors Included
The
assessment will carry a total of 200 marks, combining both technical
and non-technical parameters. Non-technical aspects such as attendance,
weight management, health management, international potential, and strength
& conditioning will contribute significantly, alongside technical
performance evaluated by an expert panel. This ensures a holistic and balanced
evaluation of each boxer.
Performance-Based
Merit System; Recent Results Also Considered
The
framework also incorporates recent performances, including results from
the COAS Cup 2026, ensuring that the selection process remains merit-based
and rewards consistency. Rankings within each weight category will be decided
through a structured knockout system, providing a fair platform for all
participants.
Leadership
Emphasises Transparency; Col Arun Malik Highlights Fair and Objective Approach
Col
Arun Malik, Executive Director of the Boxing Federation of
India, stated, “Our assessment framework is built on transparency,
objectivity, and performance. The revised schedule ensures athletes get
adequate preparation time, and the system guarantees fair and consistent
selection aligned with international standards.”
Top
Performers to Continue in Camp; Limited Spots to Maintain High-Performance
Standards
Only
the top-performing boxers will continue in the National Coaching Camp.
The top 4 boxers in Olympic weight categories and top 2 in
non-Olympic categories will be retained, ensuring a highly competitive and
elite training environment within the national setup.
Strict
Discipline and Monitoring System; Clear Rules for Accountability and Excellence
In
addition, BFI has implemented strict protocols related to weight
management, attendance, and discipline, with clearly defined scoring
criteria and penalties. This ensures accountability and maintains elite
training standards, reinforcing India’s preparation for upcoming
international challenges.
