GS Medical College-KEM Hospital produced a commanding all-round
performance to defeat D.Y. Patil Dental College by 5 wickets in
the final of the prestigious Professor A.S. Chagla Inter-Medical Cricket
Tournament. A brilliant batting effort from opener Abhijeet Rathod,
who scored a superb 70 runs, along with Deepesh Kumar’s valuable 42
runs, ensured a comfortable victory for GS Medical. The duo stitched
together a match-winning 103-run partnership for the second wicket,
which turned the final decisively in their team’s favour.
Disciplined
Bowling Restricts D.Y. Patil Dental College
The
final played at the historic Bombay Gymkhana saw D.Y. Patil Dental College
winning the toss and electing to bat first. However, the GS Medical bowlers
produced a disciplined and clinical display. Spinner Shriram Phulzhalke
bowled brilliantly to claim 3 wickets for 6 runs, while Nikhil
Navandkar picked up 3 wickets for 31 runs and Aditya Babhale
added 2 wickets for 38 runs. Their combined effort restricted D.Y. Patil
Dental College to 165 runs in 30.4 overs.
Arav
Advani and Gaurav Shende Fight Hard
Despite
the regular fall of wickets, opener Arav Advani played an attacking
knock of 37 runs from 31 balls. All-rounder Gaurav Shende
contributed a quick 25 runs from 26 balls, while Pranav Kumar
chipped in with 23 runs from 35 balls to provide some resistance for
D.Y. Patil Dental College.

Rathod Leads Sensational Chase
Chasing
a target of 166 runs, GS Medical College-KEM Hospital came out with
positive intent. Opener Abhijeet Rathod anchored the innings
magnificently with a classy 70 runs from 69 balls, while Deepesh
Kumar played a fine supporting role with 42 runs from 39 balls.
Their superb 103-run partnership for the second wicket completely
shifted the momentum towards GS Medical. The team eventually reached 169 for
5 in 26.1 overs to seal a convincing title victory.

The
prize distribution ceremony was conducted in the presence of former Indian Test
cricketer Sandeep Patil and Professor Adil Chagla, adding further
prestige to the grand finale of the tournament.
