Mehendale, Karnik Cruise into Third Round
Mumbai, November 14: Top seed Tanay Mehendale and second
seed Shvetank Karnik made light work of their respective second-round opponents
at the Yonex Sunrise-Maharashtra State Open Badminton Tournament 2024, held at
the NSCI and organized by the Greater Mumbai Badminton Association (GMBA),
under the Maharashtra Badminton Association (MBA).
Mehendale, who is the top seed in the men’s singles
category, dispatched Shivam Chaure in a one-game match, winning 30-19 in just
21 minutes on the opening day at the Willingdon Sports Club courts. On an
adjacent court, Karnik, the second seed, dominated Aritra Sarkar, securing an
easy 30-7 victory in just 11 minutes to also advance to the third round.
Meanwhile, teenager Harshit Mahimkar showcased his
resilience, defeating Kanishq Gurram 30-23 in 17 minutes to progress to the
next stage.
In some thrilling and closely contested encounters, Anay
Pingulkar edged out Yash Bhongle 30-28 in a 17-minute battle, while Piyush
Kamble triumphed over Sumit Made with a 30-28 scoreline in 23 minutes.
