November 22: The quarter-finals of the Malabar Hill Club Senior 15-Red Snooker
Tournament 2024, held at the MHC billiards hall on Friday, saw two contrasting
yet gripping victories in the men’s category.
In
the opening match, Mumbai’s Manav Panchal continued his impressive form,
delivering a solid performance to defeat Vashi’s Gaurav Jaisinghani 4-2.
Playing at his home venue, Panchal maintained a calm and steady pace, winning
crucial frames to seal his place in the semi-finals. His frame scores were
43-41, 53-67, 60-37, 73-91, 68-13, and 71-0, securing a well-earned victory.
Meanwhile,
the evening’s most exciting encounter saw Ulhasnagar’s Sumit Ahuja fight back
from a 2-3 deficit to beat Mumbai’s Sumer Mago 4-3 in a thrilling comeback. The
match saw dramatic shifts, with Ahuja clinching victory with frame scores of
40-58, 69-26, 48-74, 76-67, 10-70, 48-47, and 52-42. His resilience and
determination were on full display as he triumphed in a battle that had fans on
the edge of their seats.
Panchal’s
semi-final opponent will be the in-form Adit Raja, who stunned seasoned cueist
Hasan Badami with a dominant 4-0 win. Raja was in top form, securing a
one-sided victory with breaks of 54, 32, and 30, to win 64-13, 59-23, 68-59,
and 58-1. Despite Badami’s break of 48 in the third frame, Raja proved too
strong, wrapping up the match without dropping a single frame.
