GJG Snatch 1-Run Victory to Claim C&D Division Title

 

Mumbai :All-rounder Vedansh Patel’s composed contributions with both bat and ball were pivotal as Ghatkopar Jolly Gymkhana (GJG) edged out Matunga Gymkhana in a nail-biting 1-run victory to claim the MCA President Cup ‘C & D’ Division title. The final, held at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, provided thrilling action and a tense finish.

 

Patel remained unbeaten on 33 runs with the bat and later delivered a tight spell, taking 2 wickets for 24 runs, which proved crucial in defending their modest total.

 

Opting to bat first, Ghatkopar’s innings lacked fluency, as Matunga bowlers kept the scoring in check. Despite the struggles, Pratik Mhatre’s 36 runs, Patel’s steady 33*, and Jay Sangani’s unbeaten 24* helped GJG post a competitive total of 132/5 in 20 overs. Matunga’s Yogesh Dicholkar (2/14) and Kunal Gawand (2/22) stood out with the ball.

In pursuit of 133, Matunga Gymkhana started positively with openers Ihsaan Amin (24) and Utkarsh Raut (31) sharing a 38-run partnership. Raut, in company with Ronak Shinde (30), added another 37 runs for the second wicket. However, as pressure mounted, Matunga lost wickets at crucial moments and fell agonizingly short, managing 131/6 in their 20 overs.

 

G & H Division:

In another final, Bombay Union SC cruised to a 5-wicket victory over Dashing SC. Krish Yadav (4/16) led the charge with the ball to bundle out Dashing SC for 87 runs. Bombay Union SC comfortably chased down the target in 18.3 overs, with Chinmay Mohite’s 41 runs anchoring the innings.

Dashing SC: 87 all out, 17 overs (Krish Yadav 4/16, Aniket Juvekar 3/27, Abhishek Pan 2/19)

Bombay Union SC: 90/5, 18.3 overs (Chinmay Mohite 41; Tanish Save 2/27)

Result: Bombay Union SC won by 5 wickets.
