Lavande’s Century Propels MIG CC to Semi-Finals

Mumbai : Opening batter Varun Lavande’s scintillating century (101 off 84 balls, 12x4, 4x6) was the highlight of MIG Cricket Club’s convincing 7-wicket victory over Mumbai Police Gymkhana in the quarter-finals of the 108th Spinny-Purshottam Shield Cricket Tournament 2024. The match was played at the MIG CC ground in Bandra on Sunday.

 

Mumbai Police Gymkhana, batting first, posted a competitive total of 174 in 40.2 overs, with Sachin Rao top-scoring with 46 runs. Left-arm spinner Shreyas Gurav bowled a match-winning spell, claiming 5 wickets for just 29 runs.

 

In reply, MIG CC chased down the target comfortably in 28 overs, powered by Lavande’s century. Om Keshkamat, who had scored a century in the previous match, chipped in with an unbeaten 34 runs to guide MIG CC to 178/3 and secure a semi-final berth.

 

Hindu Gymkhana’s Dominant Show:

Host P.J. Hindu Gymkhana joined the semi-finals with a commanding 9-wicket win over MCA Cricket Academy.

 

Batting first, MCA Cricket Academy was bowled out for just 125 runs in 27.3 overs, with Harshwardhan B. (46) and Yogesh Shinde (22) providing the only notable contributions. The Hindu Gymkhana bowlers, led by Jitendra Paliwal (3/19), Atharva Bhosale (3/23), and Rahul Sawant (3/46), ripped through the batting order.

 

In their chase, Hindu Gymkhana cruised to the target in 21.5 overs, losing only one wicket. Eknath Kerkar top-scored with 42 runs, while Kaushik Chiklikar (39*) and Siddhant Adatrao (33*) completed the formalities with ease.

 

JVPG Club Advances with 75-Run Victory:

In another quarter-final, JVPG Club defeated Muslim United by 75 runs. Batting first, JVPG scored 216/9 in 45 overs, with Abhinav Jagtap contributing 48 runs. A. Maniar (4/29) and Jush J. (3/28) were the pick of the bowlers for Muslim United.

 

Chasing, Muslim United collapsed for 141 runs in just 26 overs despite a valiant 66 from Ajinkya Belose. Yash Pathak (5/36) and Samyak Gadhire (3/30) ensured a comprehensive victory for JVPG.
