Bhamidipaty and Riya Bhatia Enter Quarterfinals of L&T Mumbai Open Tennis

February 5 – India's Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, Riya Bhatia, Prarthana Thombare,
and Rutuja Bhosale have secured their places in the quarterfinals of the
L&T Mumbai Open Tennis Tournament in the doubles category. The duo of
Shrivalli and Riya defeated Japan’s Mai Hontama and Kyoka Okamura, while
Prarthana, playing alongside the Netherlands' Arianne Hartono, also claimed a
victory.
In
the singles category, Thailand’s Luksika Tararudee displayed an outstanding
performance by defeating Slovakia’s Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 7-6, 6-4. The
first set went to a tiebreaker, but Luksika’s powerful shots and excellent net
play helped her secure the win at a crucial moment.
Japan’s
Mai Hontama easily defeated the Philippines’ Alexandra Eala 7-6, 6-2. After a
closely contested first set that went into a tiebreaker, Hontama dominated the
second set, securing a comfortable victory.
In
the doubles event, the pair of Prarthana Thombare and Arianne Hartono outplayed
Thailand’s Peangtarn Plipuech and Japan’s Naho Sato with a straight-set victory
of 6-2, 6-3. The Indian duo of Shrivalli and Riya also showcased remarkable
composure, bouncing back after losing the first set to defeat Japan’s Mai
Hontama and Kyoka Okamura in a super tiebreaker 5-7, 6-2, 10-7.
Elsewhere,
Great Britain’s Eden Silva and Russia’s Anastasia Tikhonova, along with Japan’s
Nao Hibino and Georgia’s Oksana Kalashnikova, progressed to the next round. The
second-seeded Russian pair of Anastasia Anshba and Ekaterina Pridankina
defeated the Philippines’ Alex Eala and Chia Yi Tsao 6-4, 6-4.
India’s
Rutuja Bhosale and Great Britain’s Alicia Barnett advanced without playing, as
their opponents withdrew from the tournament.
