Kalaburagi : Indian tennis players Vaishnavi Adkar and Ankita Raina delivered impressive performances to book their places in the quarterfinals of the women’s singles at the ITF W35 Kalaburagi tournament being played at the Chandrashekhar Patil Stadium. With confident victories in the second round, the two Indian players continued their strong run in the USD 30,000 international event, much to the delight of local fans.

 

Adkar Produces Clinical Victory

Third seed Vaishnavi Adkar produced a dominant display to defeat Anna Siedysheva 6-2, 6-0 in straight sets. The match began with both players holding their serves comfortably, but Adkar soon raised her level. In the sixth game, she applied pressure with sharp returns to create three break points and finally broke serve after a tight deuce battle. She then held her serve confidently to take a 5-2 lead and closed the first set 6-2 with a powerful overhead smash.

 

Carrying the momentum into the second set, Adkar broke early as Siedysheva began committing more errors. Maintaining steady pressure and consistent serving, the Indian player controlled the rallies and completed a flawless second set without dropping a single game to seal a convincing win.


Raina Advances with Ease

Eighth seed Ankita Raina also registered a comfortable win, defeating Milana Maslenkova 6-2, 6-1. Raina took early control by breaking serve in the second game and maintained that advantage throughout the first set. Sustained pressure forced errors from Maslenkova, allowing Raina to wrap up the opening set 6-2.

 

In the second set, Raina raised her intensity further. She created three break points in the fourth game with a series of crisp winners and capitalised on an error from Maslenkova to move ahead 3-1. A long fifth game followed, but Raina’s powerful forehand forced crucial mistakes from her opponent as she stretched the lead and eventually sealed the match with a sharp backhand winner.

 

Other Quarterfinalists Confirmed

In other matches, Elina Nepliy defeated fifth seed Zeel Desai 7-6(3), 6-3. Top seed Jasmijn Gimbrere overcame Eva Marie Desvignes 7-5, 7-5, while second seed Anchisa Chanta advanced with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Polina Kuharenko. Sixth seed Thasaporn Naklo beat Sofia Martianova 6-3, 6-0, Maayan Laron defeated seventh seed Michika Ozeki 6-3, 6-1, and Evgeniya Burdina overcame Sofiia Suslova 7-6(1), 6-2.

 

Indian Pairs Shine in Doubles

Indian players also made their mark in the doubles quarterfinals. The pair of Sonal Patil and Bela Tamhankar defeated Snigdha Kanta and Harshini N Nagaraj 7-5, 6-2 to reach the semifinals. Meanwhile, second seeds Vaishnavi Adkar and Ankita Raina registered a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win over Evgeniya Burdina and Sofia Martianova. In another closely contested match, Sravya Shivani Chilakalapudi and Michika Ozeki defeated third seeds Zeel Desai and Elina Nepliy 7-5, 2-6, [10-6].
