strong leadership sets new direction
A Game-Changing Moment in Kho Kho Leadership
Pune, April 5: “The
game will change, the direction will change!” this powerful sentiment came alive as a historic
milestone was achieved in Maharashtra’s Kho Kho fraternity with the unopposed
election of Deputy Chief Minister Sunetratai Ajit Pawar as the President
of Maharashtra Kho Kho Association. For the first time in the history of
traditional Indian sports like Kho Kho, Kabaddi, Wrestling and Mallakhamb, a
woman has taken charge as the head of a state association, marking a golden and
transformative moment for the sport.
Historic Milestone:
First Woman President, A New Chapter Begins
The appointment of Sunetratai
Ajit Pawar is not just a formal election but a significant leap in
Maharashtra’s sports history. While women have previously led associations in
Hockey and Rifle sports, Kho Kho witnesses this honour after many years.
Following the unfortunate demise of Ajitdada Pawar, the post had
remained vacant, and now with Sunetratai stepping in, a new and
progressive chapter has begun in the administration of the sport.
Election Process:
Single Nomination, Unopposed Victory
The election was
scheduled during the Special General Body Meeting held on April 5 at Shri
Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi. However, with only one
nomination received for the President’s post, Sunetratai Ajit Pawar was
declared elected unopposed. Election Officer Adv. Dheeraj Kolhe made the
official announcement, which was met with great enthusiasm and applause. The
process was observed by Lokeshwara (Vice President, Kho Kho Federation
of India & Karnataka Association) and Pradeep Khandare (Maharashtra
Olympic Association), ensuring transparency and credibility.
Thunderous Applause:
Congratulations Pour In
As soon as Adv.
Dheeraj Kolhe announced the result, the hall echoed with loud applause and
celebration. Key officials including Secretary Dr. Chandrajit Jadhav, Treasurer
Adv. Govind Sharma, Working President Sachin Godbole, along with
other office bearers and members, extended their heartfelt congratulations to Sunetratai
Ajit Pawar for her historic achievement.
Expectations from New
Leadership: A Vision for Growth
With new leadership
comes new hope. The Kho Kho community across Maharashtra now looks forward to a
brighter future under Sunetratai Ajit Pawar’s guidance. There is strong
belief that players will receive better opportunities, improved facilities, and
enhanced exposure at national and international levels. Her leadership is
expected to bring strategic growth and renewed energy into the sport.
Beginning of a Powerful
New Era
Overall, this unopposed
election is not merely a change in position but the beginning of a powerful
era of women leadership in Kho Kho. It reflects progress, inclusivity and a
bold step towards elevating the sport to greater heights.
